Two Tips for People Who Need to Have New Furniture Delivered During Their House Move

Here are two tips for people who need to have new furniture delivered to their new home whilst they're in the midst of moving into that home.

They Should Have One Person Remain at the New Home for at Least the Duration of the Delivery Time Slot

In some circumstances, furniture companies will agree to leave their customers' purchases outside their homes, if the customer is unable to be present at the property to accept the new furniture delivery. People who've ordered furniture for their new homes might be tempted to request this if they know that they'll need to drop things off at their new home and return to their old one several times on the day that the furniture is supposed to be delivered to their new place.

However, even if a furniture company is able to do this, it is still best for those involved in a move to station one of their family members or friends at the new place for at least the duration of the delivery time slot the furniture company has provided. Ideally, this person should be at the property for a little longer than this, as due to traffic congestion or unexpected schedule changes, furniture delivery drivers may end up arriving slightly before or after the delivery time slot.

Having someone present at the new home to accept the furniture delivery is the best way to ensure the delivery goes smoothly. First and foremost, it will eliminate the possibility of the furniture getting stolen or being damaged by the elements, as a result of being left outside. This is particularly important when people are moving into unfurnished homes because if something happens to their new furniture, they may have to live without a dining table or a wardrobe, for example, for several weeks.

Secondly, it will mean that each furniture item can be placed in the room of the new house in which it will eventually be set up. This is also worth noting, as many furniture items are extremely heavy, and if the furniture delivery driver has no option but to leave them outside due to their customer requesting this, the owner of the home will then have to lug their furniture items inside themselves.

They Should Position Their Unpacked Boxes Strategically to Make the Furniture Delivery Process Easier

Those in this situation probably won't have time to unpack their boxes before the new furniture shows up. As such, they should try to position their unpacked boxes strategically so they don't interfere with the delivery of the furniture. For example, if they're expecting a bed to be delivered, they should place the unpacked boxes in that room around its edges and away from the bedroom door so that there is a relatively large empty space in the centre of the room in which the delivery people can put the bed.

Similarly, if the furniture will need to be carried through the new place's hallways or up its stairs, the new occupants of the home should ensure that there are no packed boxes (or debris, such as newspaper or tape from previously unpacked boxes) left in these areas, as these could act as obstructions that could cause the delivery people to trip over and hurt themselves or damage the furniture during this process.
